Innovative Domain Assessments in PISA
About
Since 2012, PISA has included an innovative domain assessment in every cycle. The innovative domain assessments target interdisciplinary, 21st century competences, providing PISA countries/economies with a more comprehensive outlook on their students’ ‘readiness for life’.
These assessments drive innovation in PISA in several ways: by including competences beyond the core literacies of reading, mathematics and science in large-scale, international student assessment; and by fostering advances in how students are assessed. In forthcoming PISA cycles, the innovative domain assessments will target creative thinking (PISA 2022) and learning in the digital world (PISA 2025).

Learning in the Digital World
The PISA 2025 Learning in the Digital World assessment will provide international data on students’ capacity to engage in an iterative process of knowledge building and problem solving using computational tools. The data will strengthen our understanding of the skills and attitudes students need to become autonomous learners in increasingly digital education and work environments.

Creative Problem Solving
The PISA 2012 Creative Problem Solving assessment provides internationally comparable data on students' capacity to understand and resolve problem situations where a method of solution is not immediately obvious. It includes the willingness to engage with such situations in order to achieve one’s potential as a constructive and reflective citizen.
