This report was prepared by Olof Bystrom, Isadora Nebot, Eeva Leinala, Irène Hu, Rose Mba Mébiame (all OECD Environment Directorate) and Christoph Rheinberger (European Chemicals Agency), as part of the project on Surveys on Willingness-to-pay to Avoid negative Chemicals-related Health Effects (SWACHE). The work was undertaken under the overall supervision of Shardul Agrawala, Head of the Environment and Economy Integration Division at the OECD Environment Directorate.
The SWACHE project is organised in co-operation between the OECD Working Party on Integrating Environmental and Economic Policies (WPIEEP) under the Environmental Policy Committee (EPOC) and the Working Party on Risk Management (WPRM) under the Chemicals and Biotechnology Committee (CBC), and with the support of the SWACHE advisory group set up for this project, which includes experts in chemicals regulation, toxicology and economic valuation. The Secretariat would like to thank the EPOC, WPIEEP and WPRM delegates as well as members of the advisory group for their helpful comments and valuable feedback on earlier drafts of this paper. Support is also gratefully acknowledged from the authors of the SWACHE working papers. The authors further thank Damien Dussaux for the initial co-ordination of the SWACHE project, and acknowledge Ivan Babiy for administrative support, as well as Emma DeRoy for communication support (all OECD Environment Directorate). Meral Gedik (independent consultant) prepared the report for publication.
The OECD gratefully acknowledges financial support for this work from Canada, Denmark, France, the European Union, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The authors wish to thank the European Chemicals Agency for its contributions throughout the SWACHE project.
