Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes

04/11/2026 – Uzbekistan has become the 19th member of the Global Forum’s Asia Initiative after endorsing the Bali Declaration on 28 October 2026, joining the regional effort to strengthen tax transparency and the effective use of exchange of information across Asia.

Welcoming Uzbekistan’s accession, the Initiative’s Co-Chairs, Ms Fathimath Ameeza, Commissioner General of Taxation of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, and Mr Kazuhiko Takeda, Deputy Commissioner (International Affairs) of Japan’s National Tax Agency, stated:

"We are delighted to welcome Uzbekistan as the 19th member of the Asia Initiative. Uzbekistan has made significant progress in tax transparency since joining the Global Forum in 2022 and earned a positive rating on transparency and exchange of information on request in 2026. By bringing countries together to share experiences, develop capacity and make better use of exchange of information, the Initiative helps translate international co-operation into practical results. We hope Uzbekistan’s participation will encourage other Asian countries not yet members to engage more closely with the Initiative and contribute to stronger regional co-operation on tax transparency".

Launched in November 2021 by the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, with the support of Indonesia and the Asian Development Bank, the Asia Initiative empowers participating jurisdictions in implementing the international standards on transparency and exchange of information. It also promotes capacity building, peer learning and regional co-operation to enhance domestic resource mobilisation and tax compliance.

Commenting on Uzbekistan's membership, Mr Farrukh Pulatov, Chairman of the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan, said:

"Uzbekistan’s commitment to the principles of tax transparency has translated into significant progress in recent years. By endorsing the Bali Declaration, the Government of Uzbekistan has reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening transparency, international co-operation and the effective use of exchange of information. I am confident that participation in this unique regional platform will help us build on the progress already achieved, learn from the experiences and best practices of our peers, and further accelerate progress in this area."

About the Global Forum

With over 170 members, the Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement the standard on transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR) and the standards for automatic exchange of information (AEOI), covering financial accounts under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and crypto-asset transactions under the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF). These objectives are achieved through robust monitoring and peer review processes. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members to implement the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
