18/03/2026 – Nepal has joined the international fight against tax evasion by becoming the 173rd member – and 24th Asian member – of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (Global Forum).
"We are pleased to welcome Nepal as the newest member of the Global Forum," said Gaël Perraud, Chair of the Global Forum. "Nepal's decision reflects the increasing determination of jurisdictions worldwide to work together to combat tax evasion and avoidance. Its membership further strengthens our global community and reinforces our collective efforts to advance international co‑operation in tax matters."
Members of the Global Forum include all G20 countries, all OECD members, all international financial centres and a large number of developing countries.
Like all other members, Nepal will participate on an equal footing and is committed to combatting offshore tax evasion through the implementation of the internationally agreed standards on transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR) and automatic exchange of information (AEOI).
“Nepal is pleased to join the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. This membership represents an important step in strengthening our tax administration, enhancing good governance, and supporting our efforts to mobilise domestic resources," said Rameshore Prasad Khanal, Finance Minister of Nepal. "We look forward to benefiting from the Global Forum’s expertise and capacity‑building initiatives, which will help us improve transparency, tackle tax evasion, and integrate more effectively into the global tax community.”
As new Global Forum member, Nepal will benefit from the induction programme, a comprehensive multi-year capacity-building programme aimed at helping new members implement and benefit from the above-mentioned standards.
About the Global Forum
The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement the standard on transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR) and the standards of automatic exchange of information (AEOI), covering financial accounts under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and crypto-asset transactions under the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF). These objectives are achieved through robust monitoring and peer review processes. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members to implement the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
