27/03/2026 – The Global Forum Secretariat held a virtual event on 26 March 2026 to support member jurisdictions interested in developing a bespoke solution for the automatic exchange of information (AEOI). The event brought together 88 tax officials from 33 jurisdictions to share experiences and practical insights on designing and implementing tailored technical solutions that enable effective participation in global automatic exchange of information on financial accounts and crypto-asset transactions.
Participants enhanced their understanding of the essential components to consider when developing an AEOI solution, with discussions exploring:
- the high‑level features and core functionalities of an effective AEOI solution
- implementation roadmaps and consideration
- connectivity with the Common Transmission System – the secure, global, government‑to‑government data exchange platform put in place by the OECD and managed by the Global Forum
- interactions with reporting third parties such as financial institutions
- relevant statistics and data generated by the solution to support compliance activities.
Over the course of the four-hour programme, participants heard from the Global Forum Secretariat and representatives from several member jurisdictions, including Ecuador, Mauritius, Thailand and Uganda. Presenters shared valuable first-hand experiences, including challenges faced in developing their AEOI solution and the approaches used to overcome them. Their valuable contributions provided practical guidance for jurisdictions at different stages of their implementation. Active engagement from participants throughout the event fostered a productive exchange of questions and insights.
Ensuring the secure and effective transmission of data between jurisdictions is a critical component of the work of the Global Forum. Capacity‑building initiatives such as this event play a vital role in helping members implementing the technological and operational systems underpinning AEOI, thereby strengthening global participation.
