17/04/2026 – The Global Forum Secretariat supported the Sultanate of Oman Tax Authority in organising a two-day virtual seminar on the technical aspects of the Common Reporting Standard for Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information in Tax Matters (CRS) for the financial sector. The event was held on 15-16 April 2026 and brought together over 130 participants.
Oman commenced exchanges of information under the CRS in 2020. The seminar aimed to refresh knowledge on the key concepts of the CRS, including the definitions of Financial Institutions, Reporting Financial Institutions and Financial Accounts, and the due diligence and reporting obligations imposed on Reporting Financial Institutions.
The event also provided a detailed overview of the changes made to the CRS, equipping participants with the essential concepts needed for its effective implementation. In 2023, the CRS was amended by the OECD, in collaboration with G20 countries, to help jurisdictions enhance tax transparency by expanding its scope to cover new digital financial products and improve the usability of the exchanged financial account information. Oman incorporated these amendments into its domestic legal framework in 2025, with the first exchanges under the amended CRS scheduled to take place in September 2027.
