Fundstat is an innovative analytical data infrastructure comprising an international compilation of R&D awards provided by government R&D and innovation funding bodies, allowing to analyse trends, structure, directionality of public R&D (topics/technologies) through text analytics and artificial intelligence.
Fundstat is experimental and designed to complement official R&D statistics, notably the OECD Research and Development Statistics and OECD Main Science and Technology Indicators databases, which follow the Frascati Manual and Oslo Manual standards. While survey-based indicators remain essential for accounting frameworks and structural breakdowns, award-level administrative data can add detail on the instruments and thematic direction of support and can support timelier and more flexible portfolio monitoring where award information is updated continuously by funding bodies.
Fundstat is overseen by the OECD Working Party of National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators (NESTI) via the OECD Expert Group in the Management and Analysis of R&D and Innovation Administrative Data (MARIAD).
