The OECD has co-organised and participated in the first annual meeting of the Union of Arab Stock Exchanges, a regional body assembling the constituencies from all exchanges in the Middle East and North Africa region, held on 7-8 December in Cairo, Egypt.

This two day meeting, which gathered high level representatives of exchanges, brokerage firms, clearing houses and other representatives of the financial sector addressed a variety of topics of importance to the development and stability of regional exchanges (Exchange Traded Funds, brokers, technical and fundamental analysis and corporate governance. The OECD analysis on the role of stock exchanges in corporate governance in member countries was presented to the audience and was received with great interest.
