Launched end of 2021 with the strong support of the G20 Indonesian Presidency and the Asian Development Bank, the Asia Initiative supports jurisdictions in the region in strengthening tax transparency and international tax co‑operation to enhance domestic resource mobilisation.
Since its inception, the Asia Initiative has provided a structured platform for regional dialogue, peer learning, and collective action, grounded in the Bali Declaration inaugurated in July 2022 where ministers of finance called to enhance the use of tax transparency for sustainable domestic resource mobilisation in the region in the margins of the third G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' meeting in Bali, Indonesia.
This commitment is reflected in the steady growth of the Initiative’s membership.
Members meet twice a year to share experiences, address common challenges, and advance the implementation and effective use of exchange of information. These meetings also provide an opportunity to review progress, agree on priority actions under a common work plan, and strengthen regional collaboration. Through these regular exchanges, the Initiative fosters continuity, co-ordination, and peer learning, helping to ensure that it remains responsive to evolving regional needs.
