27/06/2025 – In partnership with the OECD Global Relations Programme and in cooperation with the Inland Revenue Board Malaysia (IRBM), the Secretariat of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (Global Forum) successfully provided a two-day virtual training on 24-25 June 2025, which covered the key concepts of the standard on beneficial ownership and the use of the data obtained under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) for automatic exchange of financial accounts information for taxpayers compliance. Participants also benefitted from the United Kingdoms’ HM Revenue & Customs experience in these areas. The event brought together around 50 tax officials in charge of exchange of information and tax audits, and underscored IRBM’s commitment to expand skills within and integrate exchange of information in its revenue generation strategy.
The training was aimed at building participants’ knowledge and skills in understanding the concept of beneficial ownership and applying it in practice for audit purposes, as well as fostering capabilities of providing beneficial ownership information data in the context of outgoing and incoming requests. The training also enhanced participants’ abilities to understand data available to jurisdictions under the CRS and how they can be used to promote tax compliance and improve revenue collection.
This event reflects the Global Forum's continued commitment to supporting its members through capacity-building initiatives. The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the Standard on Exchange of Information on Request and the Standards of Automatic Exchange of Information (Common Reporting Standard and Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework). These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
