Adaptation to climate change

The OECD is responding to the challenge of climate adaptation by supporting governments in planning and implementing effective, efficient and equitable adaptation policies.

The OECD is responding to the challenge of climate adaptation by supporting governments in planning and implementing effective, efficient and equitable adaptation policies.

Climate change poses serious, wide-ranging risks to people, ecosystems, and every sector of the global economy. Efforts to significantly reduce greenhouse gases need to be complemented with a co-ordinated response to build resilience. Climate adaptation policies reduce the adverse consequences of climate impacts that are already underway and helps societies proactively prepare for the future.

New Report: Scaling up Nature-based Solutions to Tackle Water-related Climate Risks

This report provides an assessment of the use of, and recommendations for scaling up, Nature-based Solutions to address water-related climate risks. The analysis is based on two country case studies carried out in Mexico and the United Kingdom. On the basis of a previously developed policy evaluation framework, the analysis identifies existing challenges as well as highlights emerging good practices with regard to policy design and implementation, governance, regulatory mechanisms, and technical and financial arrangements. The report’s findings support policy makers and practitioners in strengthening the use of Nature-based Solutions to tackle climate risks, with a special focus on water-related risks.

Spotlight: Task Force on Climate Change Adaptation

-

In 2019, the OECD established the Task Force on Climate Change Adaptation (TFCCA), bringing together over 70 countries and organisations to promote concrete solutions and accelerate policy action on climate adaptation.

The Task Force provides policy makers with a platform to discuss and exchange experiences, best practices and the latest research on climate variability, adaptation and resilience. The TFCCA discussions provide valuable information to assess existing policy efforts and can inspire and support the development of ambitious adaptation policy agendas.
