The quality of Chile’s education system is key to the country’s inclusive economic and social growth. In the context of the recent rise in immigrant levels in the country, ensuring the successful inclusion of students with an immigrant background in education is essential. This involves providing both access to education and continuity in their educational pathways. This Policy Paper reviews actions outlined in Política de niños, niñas y estudiantes extranjeros (Policy on boys, girls and foreign students) aiming to guarantee the right to education for all individuals living in Chile, focusing on actions targeted at students with an immigrant background. While Chile has made progress in including students with an immigrant background, progression through education remains a challenge for these students. To address these challenges, the Policy Paper highlights promoting coordinated, culturally responsive support for immigrant students through inclusive curricula, teacher training, family engagement, language assistance, recognition of prior learning, and improved, intersectional data collection.
