For seven years, the OECD’s D4SME initiative has spearheaded a global coalition closely attuned to the real-time needs of small businesses navigating rapid change. From supporting SMEs to pivot rapidly to digital tools during the Covid-19 pandemic to harnessing the fast-moving opportunities of artificial intelligence, the D4SME Initiative has built a unique evidence base on what drives, and what still hinders, digital transformation. Against this backdrop, the 7th D4SME Roundtable will convene a closed-door gathering of leading experts, policymakers and businesses to take stock of the next frontier: how to boost SME competitiveness through AI adoption in a fast-moving economic landscape.
First, this dynamic event drew on fresh insights from the 2026 D4SME Survey and entrepreneurs themselves to inform interactive discussions on how emerging AI tools, including agentic AI, can reshape SME business models, boost productivity, and strengthen competitiveness. Participants will also tackle one of the most pressing challenges: the persistent information gaps that undermine adoption, trust, and effective risk management.
In the second part, the Roundtable shifted from theory to practice: drawing on the D4SME Stakeholders’ Pledge launched in 2025, participants worked together to distil the essential elements of a practical policy toolkit – one that enables SMEs to use digital and AI technologies effectively, safely, and responsibly.
