Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are increasingly moving beyond reactive approaches to fighting corruption towards more proactive and comprehensive integrity systems grounded in transparency, accountability and prevention.
Drawing on the OECD Public Integrity Indicators, country reviews and regional experience, this report assesses progress in public integrity and transparency reforms across LAC over the past decade. It highlights advances and innovative practices in areas such as promoting inter-institutional co-ordination, mainstreaming integrity and open government policies throughout the public sector, and engaging with society as a whole.
At the same time, the report identifies persistent and emerging gaps in key areas that leave governance systems across the region vulnerable to undue influence and to existing and evolving integrity risks. Closing these gaps over the next decade will be critical to translating integrity commitments into better outcomes for citizens, fostering trust in government and strengthening the foundations for economic growth.
