PIMA-AFOLU was launched in November 2024, initially including ongoing AFOLU mitigation policies in that same year. Subsequent biannual updates, conducted in co-ordination with the data collection for the OECD Agriculture Monitoring and Evaluation reports, tracks new policies as well as those that have ended. Policies that concluded prior to 2024 are not included in the database.
The database contains six main blocks of information: i) policy identification (policy name, country, policy description, and web link), ii) policy instrument typology, in alignment with the OECD’s Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches (IFCMA) iii) sectors and domains, iv) mode of mitigation and v) policy targets. The last block – vi) supplementary information – provides information on who administers the policy, the start and end dates, notes, and, where possible, budgetary information (including funding source and amount).
The inclusion of policies in PIMA-AFOLU is primarily determined by governments identifying that the goals support mitigation and contribute to their mitigation strategy. The scope of policies considered by governments to support mitigation is context specific.
