PIMA-AFOLU spans a comprehensive array of direct and indirect mitigation policies in agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) sectors. The policies included in this database are based on their underlying intent to contribute to broader mitigation efforts either directly, or through policies targeting objectives other than climate objectives but that nevertheless likely contribute to mitigation efforts.
A systematic evaluation of the impacts these policies exert on GHG emissions is needed to ascertain their efficacy and to guide future policy development. The policy database may serve as a strong basis for modelling exercises that aim to assess the impact of public policy on mitigation efforts in the AFOLU sectors. Additionally, the database serves as a collaborative platform for policy makers to help identify and learn from the policies of other countries. The database may also help track emerging AFOLU environmental and mitigation policy innovations and trends.
