The Open Science NL Work Programme 2024-2025 includes the development of the "National Training Platform for Research Data Professionals" as a key initiative aimed to enhance the competencies of data professionals, thereby advancing open science practices across the Netherlands. The platform addresses a critical need for skilled data professionals who can support researchers in implementing FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles.
The platform aims to develop and deliver an accredited curriculum tailored to data professionals at various career stages. Initial efforts will focus on establishing a foundational curriculum, with plans to expand into specialized areas such as software management, handling personal research data, and technical database expertise. By integrating training providers with existing data professional communities, the platform fosters continuous learning and the exchange of best practices. The curriculum will be synchronized with global initiatives, including those from the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Association and the Research Data Alliance (RDA), ensuring that Dutch data professionals are equipped with internationally recognized competencies.
The platform is planned for implementation during the 2024-2025 period. Its establishment will involve a European tender process, inviting organizations experienced in training data professionals to develop and deliver the curriculum.
