Antonio Gomes is Deputy Director of the Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs of the OECD (OECD/DAF) since January 2020. He leads the directorate's work on digitalisation and oversees work on competition and investment.

 

Mr. Gomes has extensive experience at the OECD, having been Acting Deputy Director of of the Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs (2018-2020) and Head of the Competition Division (2016-2018). As Head of the Competition Division, Mr. Gomes supported the Director in advancing implementation of OECD advice in both OECD and partner countries in the area of competition law and policy, promoted sound competition, and procompetitive regulatory policies for growth and sustainable development. He also ensured effective engagement with stakeholders and partners both inside and outside the Organisation, including major emerging economies, as well as with important multilateral fora, providing support to the OECD Sherpa and the Sherpa team in the area of competition for the G20 and G7 and APEC.

 

Prior to this, Mr. Gomes was President of the Portuguese Competition Authority, having previously served as a Senior Competition Expert in the Competition Division of DAF in 2013, where he provided support to the Competition Committee. Prior to joining the OECD in 2013, he was Director of the Merger Department of the Portuguese Competition Authority. Since 2005, he has been an Assistant Professor at the Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal.

 

A Portuguese national, Mr. Gomes holds a Doctorate Degree in Economics from the University of York, United Kingdom, and Master Degrees in Economics from the University of York and the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
