Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTRs) in Action: Tools and Country Experiences

This webinar is part of an ongoing series on the IOMC Toolbox and was held as a side event to the fifth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers in Geneva.

The event on PRTRs showcased the new PRTR management scheme in the IOMC Toolbox for decision making. The session introduced the updates in the IOMC Toolbox and how it could help countries meet their commitments under the Global Framework on Chemicals Beyond 2020. It also presented flagship guidance documents and resources on PRTRs aligned with the GFC. Spain and Brazil shared national perspectives on establishing and implementing PRTR systems. The event offered an opportunity for interactive discussion and knowledge exchange on strengthening PRTR implementation worldwide.

This website provides a global portal to PRTR information and activities from countries and organisations around the world. The website aims to assist countries in the development, implementation and improvement of PRTR programmes.

It has been developed and is maintained by the OECD, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Environment Programme / GRID-Arendal.

The IOMC was established in 1995 following recommendations made by the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development to strengthen co-operation and increase international co-ordination in the field of chemical safety. The Participating Organisations are FAO, ILO, UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, UNITAR, WHO, World Bank, Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and OECD. The purpose of the IOMC is to promote co-ordination of the policies and activities pursued by the Participating Organisations, jointly or separately, to achieve the sound management of chemicals in relation to human health and the environment.
