Workplaces are undergoing profound changes driven by digitalisation, evolving work organisation and shifting economic structures. Understanding not only the supply of skills but also how they are used on the job is essential for improving productivity and job quality. Drawing on new evidence from the 2023 Survey of Adult Skills, this Adult Skills in Focus brief examines which skills workers use most frequently, how patterns of skills use have evolved over the past decade, and how they differ across workers and countries. The brief also discusses how better job design, workplace practices and targeted adult learning policies can help ensure that workers’ skills are more fully utilised in changing labour markets.
