How health care providers are paid is one key policy lever to drive health system performance. This publication presents broad trends in three recent payment innovations: add-on payments for co-ordination and/or quality, bundled payments and population-based payments. It assesses the policy impact of these innovations and outlines policy directions to achieve better ways to pay for health care.
