The UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN) Open Research Programme offers a comprehensive suite of training initiatives designed to enhance skills in data-driven research. The programme supports the curation and development of training materials (‘primers’) and delivers a ‘train the trainer’ programme to promote open research practices. It is a five-year initiative launched in 2021, aiming to accelerate the adoption of high-quality open research practices across UK institutions. The programme is ongoing and is scheduled to conclude in August 2027.
Key components of this programme include:
- From Planning to Publishing (Train the Trainer): This course equips trainers with the knowledge to guide researchers in planning for data sharing from the inception of a project through to publication, emphasizing reproducibility and research integrity.
- Data Management for Reproducibility Workshop: This workshop introduces a forensic approach to identifying data, processes, equipment, and environmental factors that influence research variability, thereby impacting reproducibility.
- Reproducible Research Workshop and Train-the-Trainer: This session focuses on integrating reproducible research practices into daily workflows, aiming to instill the necessary skills and attitudes for robust reproducibility.
Open Research Resources: UKRN provides a range of materials, including animations, primers, videos, and training documents, covering topics such as open access, data sharing, open software and code, preprints, and preregistration.
