The ocean economy reached an unprecedented USD 3.5 trillion in 2025, underpinning prosperity, jobs and development opportunities across the world. At the same time, increasing pressures on marine ecosystems and resources are threatening ocean health and exposing the limits of current governance arrangements. Meeting these challenges will require better evidence, more integrated policies and strong international co‑operation to ensure that economic development and environmental stewardship advance together. Based on original OECD indicators, The Ocean Economy at a Glance provides a comprehensive overview of the ocean’s contribution to food systems, shipping, energy, minerals, tourism, employment, innovation and scientific discovery. The report equips policymakers with new evidence needed to foster a more productive, innovative, sustainable, resilient and effectively governed ocean economy.
