Why do some education systems consistently achieve stronger student outcomes than others? Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at the OECD and head of the PISA programme, explains what the world's highest performing education systems have in common and what other countries can learn from them.
PISA, the OECD’s global test for 15-year-olds in mathematics, reading and science, shows that many of the strongest performers are located in East Asia. In general, these education systems place a high value on education, align resources with need, attract talented teachers to challenging classrooms and reduce the impact of social background on student achievement.
The video also explores why teacher quality matters more than smaller class sizes, the importance of supporting disadvantaged students and using technology and artificial intelligence effectively alongside effective teaching.
