Cities of all sizes drive national growth and play a critical role in advancing global agendas for economic, social and environmental progress. OECD Urban Studies explore how to define cities and assess their performance on a wide range of policies that affect urban development and the wellbeing of residents, from housing, transport and land use to innovation and metropolitan governance. Urban policy reviews provide a comprehensive assessment of how systems of cities are working in a given country and put forward recommendations to improve the success of national urban policy and apply an “urban lens” to other relevant policies. Thematic reports offer cross-cutting data and policy advice on major topics in urban development such as ageing, migration, climate change, circular economy, metropolitan governance and investment in smart cities.
