Meeting sustainability requirements at the border

Countries are increasingly introducing sustainability requirements at their borders. These range from carbon border adjustment mechanisms to regulations on forced labour or deforestation. But how can traders demonstrate at the border that they meet these requirements? The new regulations demand new information from traders. At the same time, customs and other border officials need to verify compliance. There is a risk that the new requirements will create regulatory burdens, delays, and administrative costs if border compliance processes are not well-designed.
