The value of global agro-food exports has grown nearly fivefold in the three decades since the WTO Agreement on Agriculture, outpacing production growth. However, agro-food products still face higher tariffs and other trade barriers compared to other sectors. Government support to agriculture remains high at USD 842 billion per year in 2022-24, but the growing sector is driving down support as a share of production. Trade-related measures are increasingly used to address environmental concerns; however, regulatory co-operation could help reduce the diversity of approaches and related trade costs.
