In Indonesia, the Framework implementation started in 2023 and focuses on (i) the textile and (ii) the iron and steel sectors, with the support of Bappenas and the Ministry of Industry’s Centre for Green Industry. For the iron and steel sector, the project focusses on three decarbonisation options: Carbon Capture & Storage for Blast Furnaces (BF-CCS), Natural Gas-based Direct Reduced Iron with CCS (DRI-CCS) and Renewable hydrogen-based Direct Reduced Iron (H2-DRI).
The workshop informs the implementation of the OECD Framework for industry’s net-zero transition (the Framework) in Indonesia, under the Sustainable Infrastructure Program (SIPA). The Framework proposes a step-by-step approach to assist emerging and developing economies to identify enabling conditions and financing instruments that can support the decarbonisation of specific industry sub-sectors. It is currently being implemented in four countries: Egypt, Indonesia, South Africa, and Thailand. This knowledge-sharing workshop aims to raise awareness and learnings from international experience regarding the use of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and hydrogen use for iron and steel production.
