Many governments, employers and disability organisations have worked hard to improve access to jobs. But the data still show that people with disability are often left out of the labour market. Instead of creating separate programmes or special tools, mainstream services must be responsible for being disability‑inclusive. These services should have staff with the skills and capacity to support people with health issues or disability in the same way they support everyone else.
Creating inclusive employment means looking at the wider system and removing barriers that affect people with disability. It also means helping governments, employers and other partners use inclusive practices that benefit all workers, including those with disability.
