This report provides an overview of Kazakhstan’s national statistical system and a comprehensive analysis of its statistical policies and practices compared with good statistical policies and practices in OECD member countries. It highlights the significant progress achieved by Kazakhstan in recent years and provides recommendations to address key challenges in an evolving statistics and data environment.
The report assesses the legal and institutional framework for official statistics, the statistical infrastructure – including censuses, surveys, registers and classifications – and the quality and international comparability of official statistics in Kazakhstan. In most statistical domains under review, Kazakhstan’s official statistics are close to full alignment with best policies and practices in OECD member countries in terms of accuracy and credibility, coherence, alignment with international standards, coverage and relevance, timeliness and punctuality, accessibility, and interpretability. At the same time, coverage and data interpretability could be further strengthened in several domains. Data gaps remain in areas such as public sector debt statistics, structural business statistics, business demography statistics, trade by enterprise characteristics statistics, and environmental-economic accounts. Kazakhstan is already making strides to address these gaps, and the report highlights initiatives undertaken to align more closely with international statistical standards.
