Launched in 2023 during the G20 Indian Presidency, the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) initiative is a multidimensional project encompassing multimodal transport, energy connectivity and digital infrastructure. It has the potential to emerge as a valuable alternative trans-continental trade route supporting connectivity and economic integration. While a linear trade route was originally envisaged for IMEC, geopolitical developments have highlighted the vulnerability of global supply chains and reinforced the strategic value of diversified and resilient transport routes, transforming IMEC into a network of corridors.
This report analyses IMEC connectivity by applying the OECD Corridors' Connectivity Scoreboard, which provides a comprehensive framework to assess corridor performance across more than 40 indicators covering infrastructure, policy frameworks and outcomes. The report benchmarks countries and analyses the IMEC corridor-wide potential, constraints and evolving architecture. It features a special focus on transport infrastructure and trade facilitation.
