RDUF Guidelines for Specifying Conditions of Use in Research Data Publishing

Abstract

The Research Data Utilization Forum (RDUF) - Research Data License Subcommittee published the “Guidelines for Disclosure of Research Data and Designation of Terms of Use”. This guide helps data providers display appropriate licenses and enables reusers to easily understand licenses. It is referred to in J-STAGE Data’s data policy. These guidelines emphasize the importance of clearly specifying usage conditions when publishing research data, thereby facilitating proper utilization by third parties.

The guidelines assist data publishers in defining appropriate terms of use, including licensing conditions, to prevent issues such as unauthorized reproduction, plagiarism, and improper data manipulation.

Inclusion in Metadata: By providing a structured approach to specifying usage conditions, the guidelines support the inclusion of rights and licensing information within the metadata of research data. This practice enhances the transparency and reusability of data.

Background
