Colombia adopted its National Open Science Policy 2022-2031 in August 2022, under the leadership of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MinCiencias). The policy aims to enhance the accessibility, visibility, reproducibility, and societal value of Colombian scientific data, research outputs, and innovation outcomes, while strengthening open science skills, institutional practices, and digital infrastructures. A central objective is to foster open sharing and reuse of research data and knowledge through interoperable infrastructures, responsible research assessment, and greater citizen engagement. The policy aligns with international frameworks, including UNESCO's Recommendation on Open Science, and recognises open data as a key resource for generating social and economic value, fostering transparency, collaboration, and more inclusive scientific research.
