Building upon the achievements of the Program for Constructing Data Infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences initiated in 2018, the Program for Strengthening Data Infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences was launched by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in October 2023. The new Programme This program aims to further enhance and fortify data platforms that facilitate the sharing and utilization of data within these fields.
The Program for Constructing Data Infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences, established by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in 2018, aimed to create a comprehensive and sustainable data infrastructure for research in the humanities and social sciences. The program addresses the growing need for data-driven research in these fields, aligning with Japan's broader goals of promoting open science and interdisciplinary collaboration.
JDCat (“Japan Data Catalog for the Humanities and Social Sciences”) was developed as a component of the 2018 Program and is currently operated under the 2023 Program for Strengthening Data Infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences. JDCat enables users to conduct a cross-sectional batch retrieval of metadata (e.g., the content, context, and sources of a data set) for research data in the archives, including repositories, of participating institutions in the humanities and social sciences. An English version of the Catalog is also available.
