NOSCIs are coalitions of national organizations that support the development and integration of national open science policies and infrastructures into the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The initiatives were co-funded by the Horizon 2020 and the Horizon Europe programme and national governments in member states. Examples include The Open Science Initiative in France, The GO FAIR initiative in Germany, Recolecta open access infrastructure in Spain, Open Science NL in The Netherlands, HELIX (Hellenic Data Service) in Greece, Open Science Austria (OANA) in Austria, RCAAP national open access repository network in Portugal, National Open Science Platform (PON) in Poland, National Open Research Forum (NORF) in Ireland, Swedish National Data Service (SND) in Sweden, Norwegian Open Science Initiative in Norway.
National Open Science Cloud Initiatives (NOSCIs) across Europe play a pivotal role in integrating national platforms with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), fostering a cohesive and collaborative research environment. Key European NOSCIs initiatives/projects include:
- NI4OS-Europe (National Initiatives for Open Science in Europe): coordinates national Open Science efforts across 15 Southeast European countries
- EOSC-Pillar: coordinates national Open Science efforts across Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, and Italy, ensuring their readiness for EOSC implementation.
- EOSC-Nordic: facilitates the integration of Nordic and Baltic countries into EOSC
- EOSC-Synergy: integrates national resources and services from countries like Spain, Portugal, the UK, and others.
- EOSC-Hub: Integrates and manages services from various national and European e-infrastructures, providing a single contact point for researchers to access EOSC resources.
