National Centre for Persistent Identifiers (PID Centre)

Abstract

The National Centre for Persistent Identifiers (PID Centre) promotes the use of persistent identifiers (PIDs) such as DOI, ORCID, and ROR. It provides administrative, coordination, methodological, and financial support for the implementation and use of PIDs compatible with European and international standards. While the PID Centre strongly advocates for the use of PIDs and offers extensive support for their implementation, it does not impose mandatory requirements for their adoption. Instead, it focuses on promoting best practices and providing resources to facilitate voluntary uptake among researchers and institutions.

The PID Centre provides comprehensive support for implementing persistent identifiers (PIDs) compatible with European and international standards, including ORCID iDs for researchers and DOIs for digital research objects.

The Centre conducts webinars and training sessions to educate the research community on the importance and application of PIDs throughout the research lifecycle.

The PID Centre collaborates with national entities to integrate PIDs into the Czech research, development, and innovation environment.

Background

The PID Centre operates under the National Library of Technology (NTK) and serves as a forum for the exchange and sharing of experiences with relevant identifiers among institutions in Czechia.

The PID Centre operates with funding from the Czech Academic and Research Discovery Services (CARDS) project, which is part of the Johannes Amos Comenius Operational Programme. This financial support is designated for the period from 2023 to 2028.
