Korea Materials Data Station (K-MDS)

Abstract

K-MDS is a data repository aimed at collecting, sharing, and utilizing materials science data generated from national R&D projects. It provides a centralized platform for material science researchers to access and share data. The platform consolidates materials research data that were previously dispersed across various ministries, businesses, and research institutes, providing a unified access point for researchers. K-MDS offers data analysis services that enable users to effectively utilize the shared data for research and development purposes.

Each dataset is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), ensuring consistent referencing and enhancing data traceability. Additionally, K-MDS is linked with the National Science & Technology Information Service (NTIS) to improve data usability.

It includes:

- a standardized database of key materials for energy and environmental applications and explore and design new materials for data, AI-based energy and environmental applications.

- a research data collection in smart IT materials

- a Structure-Safety material Research and development Research data collection for innovation in the industry

Background

 K-MDS supports the integration and utilization of materials science data, contributing to advancements in materials research and development. about 73,000 documents have been registered in the K-MDS platform and, by 2027, about 360,000 documents will be provided as materials data. The three major study areas for such data are: Energy/Environment, Smart/Information Technology, and Structure/Safety.
