Korea DOI Center (KDC)

Abstract

The Korea DOI Center (KDS), operated by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), provides a central infrastructure for assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to research data. This service ensures that research data is easily identifiable, accessible, and citable.

KDC serves as South Korea's sole DOI registration agency, assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to a wide range of scholarly content, including journal articles, theses, and datasets.

KDC has integrated its services with ORCID, a global system that provides unique identifiers for researchers.

The ORCID Auto-update feature allows for the automatic addition of DOI-registered works to a researcher's ORCID profile, facilitating accurate attribution and enhancing the visibility of their contributions.

Background

The DOI system is an international standard for identifying digital objects. KISTI’s involvement in issuing DOIs supports the global movement towards open science and data sharing.

KDC educates the research community on the importance of adopting PIDs like DOIs for research outputs and ORCID iDs for researchers through webinars and collaborative efforts.

Objective(s)

To enhance the accessibility and citation of impact of South Korean research outputs by implementing a global standard identification system.

To facilitate international access to South Korean research content.
