Knowledge-Share.EU - IP platform

Abstract

KNOWLEDGE-SHARE.EU intend to set up a the knowledge market for companies: it is an IP platform designed to facilitate the interaction between university technology transfer offices, academic researchers and industry partners, by providing a portal that enables users to easily access information related to patents and technologies that represent the excellence of the scientific know-how in Italy.

Its goal is to convey patents in a clear and simple way, by highlighting the advantages that the technologies can bring to the sector of interest and to bring together companies, investors and innovators in contact with this research.

Background

DG TPI UIBM supported a joint project with the Polytechnic of Turin and the NETVAL Consortium -created in 2002 with the aim to bring together the major Italian Public Research Organizations such Universities and public/medical research centers, the project of a web portal, through which patented inventions are exhibited and knowledge is exchanged among researchers and companies,

KNOWLEDGE-SHARE.EU Is a platform set up to share on the web the innovative patents of NETVAL members, to show their knowledge and expertise, to perform joint activities on technology transfer and to develop a knowledge market for companies.

The portal -that is already an international best practice case -is intended as a bridge between business and researchers, putting together all public research organizations s’ intellectual property, described in a clear and understandable way, with all the information needed related to each patent and technology, as a simple marketplace of innovation available to our producers.

It is a public platform for the dissemination of IP information and knowledge transfer featuring tools geared to learning about, using and transferring IP.

There are already thousands of patents in the centralized online resource library build to support the web portal, which is also hosting webinars, creating online learning communities and promoting TT events: the collaboration of our partners POLITO and NETVAL is an essential part to this process.

DG TPI UIBM intend to boost in the next years the activities of the KNOWLEDGE-SHARE.EU platform in order to involve some important Italian industrial players in the IP sharing, by including in the portal also the innovative products patented by the biggest public-owned companies, as a first step; in a second step also innovative patents coming from Italian start-up companies and could be included.

DG TPI UIBM implemented its policy on Technology Transfer backing a joint project together with the Polytechnic of Turin and the NETVAL Consortium (NETVAL Consortium= 61 Universities+10 Public Research Organizations+9 medical Research Institutes, so called IRCSS) : a web portal, KNOWLEDGE-SHARE.EU, that is a highly original and innovative platform set up in order to promote dissemination of patent information and training activities for the scientific community as well as research and networking to improve knowledge and effectiveness in transferring technologies; services include online courses, access to enhanced and fully searchable databases and diagnostic tools and the platform has a community of thousand registered users.

To create a “critical mass” of patents / thousand of Italian inventions

To make them easily accessible and to develop a sort of knowledge marketplace for companies, for the commercialization of research results and the exploitation of their Industrial Property
