Generalist Repository Ecosystem Initiative (GREI)

Abstract

The NIH has taken steps to improve access to NIH-funded research data through generalist repositories operated by private (non-government) entities. These repositories accept data regardless of type, format, content, or disciplinary focus. The GREI aims to develop collaborative approaches for data management and sharing, enhancing the discoverability and reuse of NIH-funded data.

GREI is supported by several generalist repositories, including Dataverse, Dryad, Figshare, Mendeley Data, Open Science Framework, Vivli, and Zenodo, which are working together to enhance generalist repository functionality and support data sharing use cases.

Background

The initiative includes partnerships with several established generalist repositories such as Dataverse, Dryad, Figshare, Mendeley Data, Open Science Framework (OSF), Vivli, and Zenodo. These repositories work together to establish consistent metadata, develop use cases for data sharing, and train researchers on FAIR data principles
