The ReICO survey is a new international initiative designed to give voice to individuals working in research and innovation. It aims to better understand career paths, working conditions, mobility experiences, and how research skills are used across different sectors. By sharing their experience, respondents will help shape new indicators and contribute to a more complete picture of the R&I workforce that complements existing data sources.
This new survey builds on previous OECD efforts, including the International Survey of Science (ISSA) and Careers of Doctorate Holders (CDH), as well as national surveys. It will seek to capture the experiences not only of those working in academia, but also in business, government, and the non-profit sector.
The initiative forms part of ReICO’s broader effort to support evidence-informed discussions on R&I careers. It aims to engage the research and innovation community directly, helping to inform strategies for talent development, career progression, and knowledge exchange.

ReICO has established a Group of National Contact Points (NCPs) to support high-quality statistics and promote knowledge exchange. Through their designated representatives, countries contribute to the joint design of annual OECD data collections aimed at improving international statistical comparisons. NCPs draw on their knowledge of domestic priorities and data availability to help shape these efforts.
They also provide—or coordinate with domestic stakeholders to provide—relevant national data from official and other statistical sources. In addition, NCPs support the review of OECD outputs, contribute to comparative analysis, share insights, and exchange good practices with peers.
Most NCPs have been nominated by their respective countries through the OECD Working Party of National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators (NESTI).
