Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes

10/09/2025 – A delegation led by the Head of the of the Global Forum Secretariat, Ms Zayda Manatta, visited Honduras from 3 to 5 September 2025. The objective of the visit was to support Honduras in advancing its implementation of the international tax transparency standards, including the ratification of the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters (MAAC), and the strengthening of the legal framework to ensure the availability of legal and beneficial ownership information.

The mission provided an opportunity to present and discuss the Global Forum, its mandate and Honduras’ progress on tax transparency with the Minister of Finance, Mr Christian Duarte, the Minister Director of the Tax Administration (SAR), Ms Mariana Ríos, the President of the National Congress, Mr Luis Redondo, as well as other senior government officials and parliamentarians. During the high-level meetings, the delegation emphasised the importance of implementing the tax transparency standards and their benefits in combating tax evasion and other illicit financial flows, and mobilising domestic resources. The delegation also presented the technical assistance available to Global Forum members.

The visit further included exchanges with civil society organisations, representatives of the private sector and other stakeholders to highlight their collective role in advancing tax transparency in Honduras.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement the standard on transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR) and the standards on automatic exchange of information (AEOI). These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
