The OECD, Bank of Spain (Banco de España), CDP and the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) are convening the 13th Meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water at the Central Bank of Spain Headquarters in Madrid.

The meeting will build on recommendations formulated in the OECD publication Embedding Water-related Risks in Financial Stability Frameworks and based on an extensive review of current practices and challenges faced by Central Banks and financial supervisors in tackling water-related risks.

The meeting is supported by governments of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, also in collaboration with the World Water Council.

The 13th meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water will bring together senior leadership across central banks, financial authorities, financial institutions, industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and international organisations ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive discussion on this critical challenge. 

Key objectives of the meeting are to:

• Build on the wealth of analytical work existing across these stakeholders with regards to identifying, assessing and managing water-related risks to financial systems and economies, and elevate understanding across government agendas.
• Advance understanding of opportunities for financial authorities to address water-related risks in financial systems, for policies across sectors to be mutually reinforcing with water security objectives, and for water actors to engage on water-related risks with economic and financial decision-makers. 
• Determine actionable insights and pave the way for impactful interventions in managing water-related risks.

Discussions aim to improve understanding of water-related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities, with a view to galvanising coordinated action. This meeting seeks to chart a clear, forward-looking roadmap of priorities at both national and international levels.

Sessions will focus on:  

• Water shocks and systemic risk   
• Economic impacts to sectors and global supply chain vulnerabilities 
• Financial Supervision in systemic risk and resilience
• Fiscal risk in a water-insecure world
• The critical role of insurance
• Pricing water risks and designing resilient transition pathways
