Workforces are ageing across OECD countries, raising an important question: are organisations ready for longer working lives? The ability to attract, retain, and support older workers is becoming increasingly important for productivity, competitiveness, and labour market resilience. Employers play a central role in shaping these outcomes – through hiring practices, access to training, job quality, and working conditions. Yet many employers face practical challenges in aligning their policies and practices with these shifts, from hiring and skills development to job design and working conditions. While policies may exist, outcomes often differ, and there is often limited visibility of where gaps remain or where action is most needed.
The OECD Longevity Readiness Tool helps address this challenge. It is an employer-focused online diagnostic tool designed to help employers, governments, and social partners to assess how prepared they are for longer working lives. It benchmarks employer practices against international data and translates the results into practical insights, helping organisations identify strengths and areas for action. At the same time, it provides a shared evidence base for governments and social partners better understand how workplace practices are evolving and where further action may be needed.
