Foreign direct investment in the Region of Murcia has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting the region's increasing integration into global markets. To diversify beyond its traditional agricultural base, the region is actively expanding higher value adding activities like logistics, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. It is one of Spain’s most significant logistical hubs, with more than 80 industrial parks supporting its strategic position as a gateway for trade. However, persisting gaps in transport and digital connectedness limit economic opportunities. More broadly, the Region of Murcia faces structural challenges that may constrain the full realisation of its economic potential, including high youth unemployment and skills mismatches in emerging sectors. While the region benefits from having the youngest population among Spanish regions, more targeted investment in education and upskilling could help better match labour supply with evolving market demands. Finally, its proximity to major touristic regions also provides opportunity to carve out new, sustainable tourism development models
