Read the final statement published by the Korean NCP - 12 October 2018
On 19 July 2018, Samy Badibanga Ntita, a former Prime Minister and Member of the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of Congo, submitted a specific instance to the Korean NCP alleging that Miru Systems, an electronic voting machine manufacturer that exported its product to the Democratic Republic of Congo, did not observe the OECD Guidelines. More specifically, the submitter alleged that the electronic voting machines were not able to secure voting ballots, and as a result, the company contributed to human rights abuses. Furthermore, the submitter alleged that the absence of a public tender process may have been linked to corrupt practices.
On 12 October 2018, the NCP published its final statement in which it did not accept the specific instance, as it determined that the OECD Guidelines do not apply to Miru Systems, as it is not a multinational enterprise with a subsidiary or branch overseas.
