Merger remedies remain a key tool for addressing competition concerns arising from mergers while allowing transactions that do not substantially lessen competition to proceed. As markets become more complex and merger review continues to evolve, competition authorities are increasingly focussed on the design, implementation and effectiveness of remedies.
In December 2026, the OECD Global Forum on Competition will bring together competition authorities from around the world to discuss recent developments in merger remedies, including the use of structural and behavioural measures, lessons from ex post evaluations, and emerging challenges in remedy design and implementation. The discussion will explore how authorities can ensure that remedies effectively preserve competition while accounting for market realities.
