Governments are under growing pressure to deliver positive change against complex policy challenges. Yet sound policy design alone is often not enough. In a fragmented information environment, reforms can struggle to advance when people do not understand the problem being addressed, trust the process behind decisions, or see how policy choices respond to their concerns.
The event will launch two new OECD reports on the future of communication and its role in building trust and delivering policy impact in the age of algorithms:
- Reforming Government Communication for the Age of Algorithms
- Public Communication Handbook to Bridge Divides and Shape Better Policy: Voices that Resonate
Together, they argue for treating communication not as a downstream messaging function, but as a core instrument of public governance that helps institutions listen, explain difficult choices, adapt where needed and support effective policy delivery.
This virtual launch event will situate these findings within the OECD’s Government Unstuck agenda, which examines how governments can strengthen their capacity to deliver and bring people along with reform in a context of declining trust, division and growing implementation challenges.
Drawing on new evidence, country experience and practical tools, the discussion will explore how governments can communicate in ways that are more people-centred, evidence-based and fit for today’s information ecosystem, helping reforms become not only better explained, but more understandable, responsive and deliverable.
