As SMEs face growing pressures from high energy costs, more frequent and severe weather events, longer-term shifts in climate patterns, supply-chain disruptions, and an increasingly uncertain operating environment, strengthening business resilience has become a key priority for governments, development finance institutions, and the wider SME support ecosystem. Investments in climate adaptation and energy efficiency can help SMEs reduce and manage risks, improve productivity, lower operating costs and enhance long-term competitiveness. However, many SMEs continue to face significant barriers in accessing the finance, technical assistance and other enabling support needed to undertake these investments.
The 5th Annual Conference of the OECD Platform on Financing SMEs for Sustainability will bring together policy makers, public development banks, financial institutions, international organisations and SME representatives to explore how financing can better foster SME resilience. The Conference will examine practical approaches to mobilising investment in climate adaptation and energy efficiency, showcase innovative financial instruments and public support programmes, and discuss how ecosystem actors can work together to strengthen the enabling environment for SME sustainability.
Through panel discussions and interactive peer exchange, participants will share experiences, identify common challenges and exchange practical lessons on designing effective financing solutions, building bankable investment pipelines, mobilising private capital and supporting SMEs in implementing resilience-enhancing sustainability investments.
