- This one-day capacity-building session was organised by the OECD Clean Energy Finance and Investment Mobilisation Programme (CEFIM) with the Viet Nam Development Bank (VDB), together with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) Financial Institutions Department and the National Institute for Economics and Finance (NIEF). It brought together representatives from MOF, VDB, NIEF and other relevant stakeholders, with experts from KfW and ADB, to discuss green credit implementation tools for financial institutions. The meeting first covered environmental and social risk assessment frameworks, and then climate mitigation taxonomies for financial institutions, focusing on international best practices and implementation in Viet Nam.
- It provided participants with a structured introduction to key concepts and approaches in environmental and social (E&S) risk management for financial institutions. The discussion focused on international best practices in E&S frameworks, including key elements of IFC Performance Standards and their practical application. It facilitated peer exchange on implementation challenges and solutions in the Vietnamese context.
- With interactive case studies on roof-top solar and on mini-hydropower, this workshop enhanced Ministry officials and bankers’ ability to regulate and apply E&S frameworks, aligned with international standards, to renewable energy projects
- The capacity-building session then focused on international methodologies for assessing climate mitigation finance, including the Common Principles developed by Multilateral Development Banks. It enhances participants’ capacity to apply climate finance tools and taxonomies in support of institutional climate strategies.
